Fantasy Football Podcast
Episode Guide To Help You Win Your Fantasy Football League!
8/30/24: Preseason Huggy & Baggy Awards!
Fantasy football draft season is coming to an end with a bang! We'll wind up our coverage of the NFL in August with our awards for the fantasy MVP, the LVP, the players we love and the ones we can't stand hearing more about, and much more. Plus we'll give you our final pieces of advice as you head into Labor Day weekend for your big fantasy drafts! Also: Brandon Aiyuk signs! What now? Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
8/29/24: Total Listener Request Episode
It's our annual pre-draft tradition: we turn the podcast over to *you*! We'll answer your questions about football and not-football -- stuff like: What are we doing with Brandon Aiyuk? What French stuff did Andy do at the Olympics? What are our positional strategies in 14- and 16-team leagues? What players do we most regret had their careers cut short by injury? Who is better at fantasy? Does Harris have a book deal? We'll answer all those questions and more! Big fun! Guest: Andy Behrens from Yahoo! Fantasy (@andybehrens).
8/28/24: Un-Buzzed-About Players For 2024 & ADP Changes In August
Just because there isn't buzz about a player doesn't mean he'll stink for fantasy! Today we'll count down a list of players who haven't generated much news throughout August, but should return very nice (and possibly great) value in your upcoming fantasy draft. We'll also survey players the market has changed on *most* in August by looking at ADP changes one a couple of the biggest ADP aggregating sites. Plus the big news from NFL cutdown day! Guest: Sigmund Bloom of FootballGuys.com (@SigmundBloom).
8/27/24: Players We're Worried We Might Be Wrong About!
We know who we like drafting and who we'll stay away from, we've built our picture of how the NFL season will go...and we're standing by it! But it's important to acknowledge: we could be wrong. Assumptions we've made could turn out flawed, team plans might be different than we expect...and we might be valuing players incorrectly. It's important to acknowledge where we can see the other side of an argument, if only so we can be the first to adjust once the season begins. So today we'll nominate players we might be wrong about! Plus some words about auction drafts! Guest: Ben Gretch of the Stealing Signals newsletter (@YardsPerGretch).
8/26/24: Late-Round Players We Love & Almanac Updated!
When it comes down to it, what we're trying to do in this final week of fantasy football drafts is get some player names in your brain who you can feel comfortable drafting. And so we're mostly turning over today's show to listing some NFL players *we* find *ourselves* drafting a lot in the later rounds. Not all of them are "must-draft," but hopefully you'll hear the names we discuss and get some ideas for when *you're* on the clock late in a draft. Also: we'll talk about the early update we did on the 2024 Harris Football Player Profile Almanac, and read Russell Wilson's profile. Guest: JJ Zachariason of the Late Round Podcast and Living The Stream (@LateRoundQB).
8/23/24: Super-Deep Sleepers Part 2 & Josh's Warp Zone
The Super-Deeps continue today with another five players you might not want to take in standard-sized leagues, but who have interesting dynasty and waiver-wire potential for 2024. We'll also talk about the Jahan Dotson trade and its implications for both the Commanders and Eagles, we'll review Jonathan Taylor's '23 tape and discuss him for '24, we'll play an amazing listener mixtape, *and* Cousin Josh will find you players in the middle rounds he thinks will significantly over-perform their ADPs. Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
8/22/24: Super-Deep Sleepers Part 1 & This Show's Philosophy
You love the Super-Deeps! Who doesn't love the Super-Deeps? It's a list we do every year, to unearth ultra-deep fantasy football sleepers who shouldn't be drafted in standard-sized leagues, but who we think have a chance to make a dent given the chance in 2024. We'll begin the countdown of our 2024 Super-Deep Sleepers, plus discuss the philosophy of our show and why it might sound somewhat different (and give other advice) than other NFL talk. Guest: Jake Ciely of The Athletic (@allinkid).
8/21/24: Dynasty Ups & Downs Plus Rhamondre Draftability
Dynasty fantasy football leagues are funny. We fetishize youth before it ever proves it can play, and discard veterans while still at their peaks! That's why it's our contention that there really is no such thing as a "purely" dynasty conversation: the *current* year in a dynasty league matters, too! So today's show will list players who've seen their dynasty stocks go up and down since April, but we're necessarily *also* talking about re-draft at the same time...so we think everyone will enjoy! Plus a snarkbag, and a preview of Rhamondre Stevenson's 2024 season. Guest: Pat Fitzmaurice of FantasyPros (@Fitz_FF).
8/20/24: Safe Players For 2024 & Brian Thomas Profile
When it comes to draft strategy, it seems like all people talk about is "upside" and "ceiling," and of course we understand. Who doesn't love week-winning fantasy football options? But sometimes when considering roster construction, it's important to find safe players, too. That'll be our goal for today's podcast: the philosophy of when taking "high-floor" players makes sense. Plus we'll give you options in each of the early rounds for safe players you can feel great about drafting. And we'll update Justin Herbert's injury, Curtis Samuel's injury and discuss Jags rookie WR Brian Thomas. Guest: Scott Pianowski of Yahoo! Fantasy (@scott_pianowski).
8/19/24: Five Busts For 2024 & Davante Adams Profile
Let's talk fantasy football busts for 2024! These are players we think either won't deliver at their current draft values, or we think could absolutely tank your team via diminished playing time, role, or injury. It's a major list we do every season! How many of these guys will *you* be avoiding in your fantasy football draft? Plus we'll talk about ranks changes we made over the weekend, and review Davante Adams's profile from this year's Almanac. Guest: Patrick Daugherty of Rotoworld (@RotoPat).
8/16/24: Flag Players 5 thru 1 & Josh's Frag Players For 2024
Let's get to the *rest* of the 2024 Flag-Planted Players -- the fantasy draft picks we like best as a combination of upside and value. Don't draft your fantasy football team without the flag players! Today, we'll also get to some DO-NOT-DRAFT players with Cousin Josh's Frag List, and we'll review the tape on fantasy first-rounder Breece Hall to determine how he looked in his first season back from a knee injury, and where to take him in '24 drafts. Big fun! If you're drafting this weekend: good luck! Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
8/15/24: Flag Players 10 Thru 6 & Offenses We Might Be Wrong About
Let's plant some flags! It's time for our annual list of players we love drafting at their current value...we'll give you half our list on today's show, and half tomorrow. Plus we'll talk about DK Metcalf's game film from 2023 and discuss his draftability this season. And we'll also delve into assumptions that underpin our fantasy football ranks for '24: what if we're simply wrong about the teams we suspect will be very good or very bad. That could throw off our fantasy results! We'll reflect on the NFL offenses we simply might be wrong about. Guest: Jeff Erickson of Rotowire (@Jeff_Erickson).
8/14/24: Handicapping The NFL In 2024 & Austin Ekeler Sleeper Status
Who's winning the NFL's passing yards title in 2024? Who'll lead the league in rushing TDs? Which team has the best odds to make or miss the playoffs? Today we're hunting over/under season win totals we like, talking about teams we think the market is most undervaluing, and digging overall into handicapping the NFL in 2024. Plus some review of Austin Ekeler's game film and a discussion about whether he makes for an interesting sleeper in fantasy football drafts. Guest: Chris Raybon of The Action Network (@ChrisRaybon).
8/13/24: Biggest ADP Surprises For 2024 & Dalton Kincaid Film
It's finally time to dig into Average Draft Position and figure out the players we think have been mis-evaluated by the fantasy football market. Which players are being pumped up too much in fantasy drafts? Which players are coming at absurd value? We'll begin to tell that story today...and also evaluate the rookie tape of Bills second-year tight end Dalton Kincaid. Let's start getting those fantasy draft strategies sorted! Guest: Dave Kluge of FootballGuys.com (@DaveKluge).
8/12/24: Rookies For 2024 & Michael Pittman Film
Will a couple rookies get over-drafted for fantasy football in 2024? Yes! Should that stop us from taking chances on later-round rookies who might blow up? No! On today's podcast, we'll review the first-year NFL players for '24 and discuss both their re-draft and their dynasty potentials, and whether we think they're coming at good fantasy draft value. Plus, let's talk about Michael Pittman, whose numbers paint him as a dink/dunk artist but whose film tells an entirely different story. Guest: Matt Waldman of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio (@MattWaldman).
8/9/24: Risk Factors Of Top 2024 Picks & Zay Flowers Film
Risk management isn't sexy, but it's a big part of fantasy football draft strategies in 2024, especially in the early rounds. How risk-tolerant or risk-averse are you? That can influence which players you should select! Today we'll go through every player currently being selected in the top 36 of fantasy drafts, and we'll assign risk coefficients for every one: grading the risk they carry on a scale from 1 to 10. Also: let's talk about the rookie film of Ravens WR Zay Flowers! Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
8/8/24: Players We Love & Anthony Richardson Film
You know what sometimes makes an NFL season more enjoyable? When you focus on love! Today we're counting down some players whose skills we think are really great. Sometimes it means we think they're awesome to draft on a fantasy football team, and sometimes it simply means we love watching them. Fun topic! We're spreading the love! Also, let's think about Colts QB Anthony Richardson, and what could go right and what could go wrong in 2024. Guest: Brett Kollmann of the Film Room YouTube Channel (@BrettKollmann).
8/7/24: Post-Hype Sleepers For 2024 & Josh Jacobs Film
The fantasy football market is a fickle beast. It will hype the living heck out of a young player, usually inflating his price to the point where we don't want to draft him...but if that young player doesn't live up to his billing, the market will drop him like a hot potato. That's where this episode comes in: today we'll list players who qualify as Post-Hype Sleepers! These are players fantasy drafters feel burned by, and so may in fact come at good value in 2024 fantasy football drafts. Also: Josh Jacobs film! He's the Jacked Gerbil! Guest: Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Fantasy (@JameyEisenberg).
8/6/24: Swing Players For 2024 & Aiyuk Drama
Every year a lot of fantasy leagues get decided by the high-upside, scary-downside draftees that we decide to either take a chance on or let slip by in our fantasy drafts. These are the players who can swing a league! And that's why we call them Swing Players! Today we'll count down some risk/reward guys you might be considering for 2024 fantasy football leagues. And we'll weigh in on the current state of Brandon Aiyuk's contract drama. Guest: Brandon Funston of The Athletic (@BrandonFunston).
8/5/24: Film Room Zeroes & SNARKBAG
Last week we tackled players we *love* on film...and today, we're doing the opposite. It's a football discussion that can also impact your fantasy team -- mostly, though, we're just going to list some players whose most recent game film didn't impress us very much. It's the annual Film Room Zeroes list! We'll also read some of your snarky emails and playing a couple fun sound drops from the old days! Guest: Jim McCormick of ESPN (@_JimmyMcCormick).
8/2/24: ALMANAC DAY & Acid-Reflux All-Stars
Today you get to read about every skill player you're considering drafting for fantasy football in 2024! It's ALMANAC DAY! We're looking forward to having you read our evaluations and jokes and silliness in this year's Almanac! Of course, injuries are gonna happen, and we already have two big ones to metabolize on today's podcast: Justin Herbert and DeAndre Hopkins. We'll discuss them both, plus we'll list players who we might actually wind up drafting, but we're pretty sure will give us stress farts. It's our Acid-Reflux Alll-Stars! Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
8/1/24: Film Room Heroes & George Pickens Preview
Sometimes when it comes to the NFL, it's all about love! Today we'll talk about players whose game film we simply enjoy watching. They might not necessarily all come at fantasy football prices we're willing to pay, but they *are* all Film Room Heroes! Also, we'll review the tape on third-year Steelers wideout George Pickens and talk about what kind of player he is, and what his prospects might be for fantasy leagues in 2024. Great show! Thanks for listening! Guest: Ben Gretch of the Stealing Signals newsletter (@YardsPerGretch).
7/31/24: Offensive Line Grades & Top Almanac Talents
Knowing which offensive lines have the potential to be great and which ones might be a problem can be awesome deep background for your fantasy football drafts. Today we'll discuss the blocking units we expect to be unexpectedly good *and* unexpectedly bad in 2024. We'll also survey the '24 Player Profile Almanac and discuss the top (and bottom) talent grades we gave to individual players, plus we'll talk about the incredible '23 production (and film) of Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert. Guest: Ross Tucker of the Ross Tucker Football Podcast (@RossTuckerNFL).
7/30/24: Five Skill Players Who Could Lose Their Jobs & Chase Brown Film
Fantasy football ranks can be precarious things. We think there are some skill-position spots that could legitimately be up for grabs before the 2024 NFL season begins, and today we'll count 'em down. Which running backs could lose their primary gigs? Which receivers might unexpectedly infringe on starting territory? Of course, we don't know for sure, but we'll make some suggestions about some skill veterans who might see their playing time diminish, and their fantasy football ranks dive. Guest: Denny Carter of Rotoworld (@CDCarter13).
7/29/24: Most Important August Storylines & Kyle Pitts Film
We're back! The Little Podcast That Could has returned to *five* episodes per week! And we'll kick things off by consolidating all the stuff we talked about in July, and coming up with a list of the five training camp stories we think will matter most for fantasy football in 2024. Plus we'll take another look at Kyle Pitts's film and decide if a fourth-year breakout is in the offing. Big fun! So glad to have you back! Guest: Dave Richard from CBS Fantasy (@daverichard).
7/26/24: AFC South Preview & One Week Til Almanac!
The Texans look like an absolute wagon, but with two huge new offensive pieces -- Joe Mixon and Stefon Diggs -- we have to reevaluate how we're taking all those Houston players in a fantasy football draft. The Titans have a re-made backfield *and* a re-made receiving corps. The Jags dumped their top two outside receivers. And the Colts have an all-world runner returning from shoulder surgery to be their starting quarterback. Today we'll preview training camps for the teams of AFC South, with an eye toward what we will and won't pay attention to when the news starts flying fast and furious in August! Guest: Cousin Josh (@DetectiveFisch).
7/23/24: NFC South Preview & How To Draft Alvin Kamara
What to do with Alvin Kamara? Is he a cooked workhorse who will drag down your fantasy football team? Or does he present a great buy-low opportunity for 2024? We'll discuss, and we'll preview training camps for the Buccaneers, Saints, Falcons and Panthers, also known as the teams of the NFC South. How could our opinions evolve in August on players like Drake London, Rashid Shaheed, Darnell Mooney, Jonathon Brooks and others? We'll talk talk about what we'll be paying attention to! Guest: Jeff Erickson of Rotowire (@Jeff_Erickson).
7/19/24: AFC West Preview & Zamir White Profile
The Raiders will give Zamir White unlimited volume! There's nobody for Justin Herbert to throw to! The Broncos are definitely spreading their backfield among four running backs! Actually, we're not sure that *any* of these things are true...and training camp stories may guide us to decide whether we can trust and believe in these players for our fantasy football teams. Today we'll break down squads of the AFC West, and describe what we will and won't be paying attention to -- and how our fantasy football ranks might change -- once training camp begins for the Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos and Chargers. Guest: Patrick Daugherty of Rotoworld (@RotoPat).
7/16/24: NFC West Preview & Kyren Williams Profile
The Rams and Seahawks both feature backfields filled with young talent, and therefore they both present fantasy football questions. Is Kyren Williams really set to do it again, or will rookie Blake Corum eat into his workload? Will Ken Walker maintain a big lead over Zach Charbonnet or are they headed for a more even split? We can't tell you exact RB workloads, but we can talk about the kinds of stories we're interested in paying attention to in training camps in a few weeks. Today we'll talk through the teams of the NFC West and give you a sense of what we'll believe and what we won't believe when the torrent of info from NFL beat reporters begins! Guest: Dave Kluge of FootballGuys.com (@DaveKluge).
7/12/24: AFC East Preview & Stefon Diggity Almanac Profile
Whoever winds up being the Bills' top receiver has a chance to be extremely valuable for fantasy football. But will we be able to tell who that is based on training-camp stories? We'll discuss that topic plus many others for teams of the AFC East. What will the Dolphins do with their backfield? Will we be able to discern whether the Jets and Aaron Rodgers can be vastly more competent on offense? Will we get enough info from Patriots training camp to find late-round value? We'll talk about these teams plus discuss Stefon Diggs's 2024 fantasy draft value! Guest: Jake Ciely of The Athletic (@allinkid).
7/9/24: NFC East Preview & Upcoming Livestream Event!
Some massive fantasy stars play for the Cowboys and Eagles, and there are interesting fantasy football value picks available on the Giants and Commanders. Today we're previewing training camps for the teams of the NFC East, and discussing which stories we'll be paying attention to and which we'll try not to be swayed by once August arrives. Can the Cowboys make one of their running backs a fantasy star? Will the Eagles' new scheme lend Jalen Hurts more reliability? What if the Giants backfield gets an unexpected lift from a lesser-known player? And what signs can we use to know whether Jayden Daniels is ready? We'll talk about 'em all! Guest: Matt Harmon of Yahoo! Fantasy (@MattHarmon_BYB).
7/5/24: AFC North Preview & Almanac Update
We'll be tracking huge stories on AFC North teams this August, and living day-by-day with beat reports that will influence fantasy football strategies. What will happen in the Bengals RB battle between Chase Brown and Zack Moss? Will Deshaun Watson's shoulder looked healed enough to seek value in the Browns' offense? Will Russell Wilson dispatch with Justin Fields and make Roman Wilson an interesting sleeper? Will Nick Chubb be able to do anything? We'll talk about all that and more, plus discuss things that *won't* change our fantasy ranks, too. Plus we've got an update on the 2024 Player Profile Almanac! Guest: Jim McCormick of ESPN (@_JimmyMcCormick).
7/2/24: Welcome Back - Season 10 Begins - NFC North Preview
Thanks for coming back to the Little Podcast That Could! It's time to start discussing the storylines we *will* and *won't* be paying attention to once the hype starts flying in training camps. Today, we'll tackle the teams of the NFC North: Lions, Packers, Vikings and Bears. What happens if J.J. McCarthy isn't ready? Is Josh Jacobs destined to fail in Green Bay? What will it take to get us believing in Caleb Williams and/or D'Andre Swift? What would it mean if the Lions can find a deep threat? We'll discuss all this and much more! Guest: Andy Behrens of Yahoo! Fantasy (@andybehrens).
